I picked up this issue the other day after getting back from vacation. It took me a little while before I had time to read it, since I was playing catch-up at work.
As the cover implies, the Smoking Man has been resurrected. I expected he reappearance to be more annoying than it actually was. I was pretty irked last month when they hinted at his return.
I’m having a difficult time following the storyline. It’s very choppy and jumps around quite a bit. I can’t help but wonder if it is intentional on the part of the writers, to instill a sense of confusion in the reader. I’m going to be generous and give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that it is intentional. Looking at it from that perspective, it is successful in creating a feeling of uncertainty, where the reader is not really sure what is going on.
Here are my general thoughts having finished the third installment. If you are an X-Files fan, then go ahead and read it. You may get annoyed at some things, but you won’t hate it. If you are not a big fan, then skip it. You’ll end up frustrated. Myself, I’ll continue reading the series, mainly because I am invested in the story already, and because I was such a fan of the television series.
If you have read the comics, I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts. Cheers!
